I have a 1976 dodge dart with a 318 that needs a rebuild I was looking around for a better motor with more hp potential for future builds. I've heard the 383 is a good motor and I found one on CL it's a 383 out if a 1968 charger. My question is will this engine fit into my 76 dart with out major modifications or is it not worth the head ache? Thank you planning on buying it this weekend if it will fit so any info will help thank you
yes.. you can put a 383 in the 76.. its not a LOT of work.. but the transmission, and torque converter are different.. as are all the accessory brackets.. belts. linkages..and the exhaust.. motor mounts for the conversion are available as far as i know from some suppliers.. you would actually be better off.. if you don't have deep pockets.. as 383s are a LOT of fun and have a lot of power.. in thinking about installing a 360 and the matching torque converter and harmonic damper. i am not trying to talk you out of it.. but its not a quick bolt in between those 2 years.. at least in my opinion..
Wayne is correct about going the 360 route. But with the 383, it's been done MANY times and a lot of information is available in the archives of these two sites. ForABodiesOnly.com and BigBlockDart.com
I have a 67 A-100 van with a 318. The oil filter housing is leaking and I can't find the gasket anywhere. It's the flat plate style housing with a single gasket. I was hoping to get a part number for the gasket or info on finding one. HELP!
On a 67 Dodge A-100 van does anyone have a part # for shocks? Are the front shocks the same as the rear? I have a Monroe #31131 for the front? Can't find anything for the rear. The shocks that came off are to rusty to read but look the same in front and rear. Need a little help here.
