I rebuild my 727 transmission. Put new clutches, bands, seals, etc....  I did the air check using the rear and front servo ports to check the bands. The air check test works and both bands move. The rear servo moves up and down. I have 1st and 2nd gear.
I'm thinking my valve body is the cause of having reverse gear. So if anyone can give there opinion I would gladly appreciate it.

Does the car drive in 3rd gear.  The direct or front clutch is used in 3rd and rev.

Your not answering my question.  If you take off in drive, after the trans shifts from 1st to second, does it shift 3rd?

Sorry, for the delayed respond it shifts from 1st to 2nd, then 2nd to 3rd. I removed the valve body this weekend to check it. I had another one for backup in case this happen. I cleaned out the backup valve body saturday, then installed it into my trans. I re-adjusted the front and rear bands, filled up the trans with fluid, started up the engine and the reverse gear works now. The 1st valve body I took off had had to broke spring in one of the shift slots. thanks for the advise.
