HiI am wanting to find official information on the tire size options for a 71 GTX 440. I need this to get it past compliance here in NZ. Any help would be appreciated.
In 1971 the Charger (with fixed rear quarter windows) came standard with E78x14in tires, while the hardtop was standard with F78x14in tires. Optional were G78x14in and F70x14in tires. Muscle cars road on two different sizes. Those with a 383ci or 340ci V-8 were standard with F70x14in white-lettered tires, while cars with a 440ci or the Hemi were standard with wider G70x14in tires. These tires were optional on Road Runner and Super Bee models with the 340 or 383ci powerplants. G60x15in tires were optional with all muscle cars. All white-lettered tires were Goodyears. (Quoted from AUTHENTIC RESTORATION GUIDE CHARGER, ROAD RUNNER & SUPER BEE RESTORATION GUIDE by Paul A. Herd, MBI Publishing Company, copyright Paul A. Herd 1994)So, the '71 GTX came standard with the 440ci engine and would have come standard with the G70x14in tires. The G60x15in tires were optional on the '71 GTX and I personally saw several '71 GTXs on car lots in 1971 with the 15x7 Ralley wheels with the Goodyear white-lettered G60x15in tires.Hope this helps.
Thank you, that is a big help
