Gotta 727 tranny shacking up behind a mildly worked 383 4bbl motor in a 70' 2dr c body car. Lately, the transmission has been shifting very strangely; upon full throttle acceleration from  a stop 1st gear shifts very quickly to 2nd, and then 2nd gear shifts even faster to 3rd, and then its 3rd gear FOREVER. Almost like starting out in 3rd gear. Any ideas?

fluid level check ??????/ idling in Neutral...  not ever transmission was modified to fill the converter properly in park..

when was the last time you did a transmission service.. and changed the transmission filter in the pan.. screwed to the bottom of the valve body...  the filters DO clog and get hard.. restricting the fluid flow..

please read the residue in the transmission pan...

and then refilled...

If its shifting that early & soft you usually have a Tv linkage problem. Make sure the rod from the carb didn't fall off down at the trans lever!! You should be able to push it (part 1 pic above)back from the Carb and it should return on its own. Don't keep driving it like this it WILL burn it out.
4 cylinders are only half a real motor.

waynep7122 thanks for responding,
yeah, did all that last (serviced) fall when I got that car. The tranny does not "hang" between shifts (as if the fluid is low)...and I'm not smelling any burnt fluid, in fact it does not even leak...she is just shifting to soon as it appears to me.

Spud490, thanks!
just to make sure, in the diagram the rod from the carb would be the #10 part, and the TV linkage would be the #11 part? I have a throttle linkage diagram for 1970 Chrysler 383-440 cars and it is a bit different from the small block cars.

There also should be an adjustment spot at bottom end(making the rod longer = later shifts) Any of the connecting rods you push on should spring back to the carb lever.

update
Ok so I adjusted the throttle linkage a bit, pushing back #10 until the throttle valve lever was at full stop, then I re-adjusted slider until the bolt was at the very front end (sorry I cannot find an exact diagram for my car:70 Chrysler Newport 383, even in my 70 Imperial/Chrysler shop manual). Anyway that improved first gear, it winds out much longer now with substantial power behind it. 2nd gear though is another thing, it is still a fast but lazy shift to 3rd gear, and I have no "kick down" action either (merging into traffic at 45-50 mph can't kickdown to lower gear to get a boost in speed)....oh, thanks for the help I know you all have better things to do.

Keep adjusting till you have normal shifts. You might have to do this a couple times. If yu cannot adjust enough to get proper shifts you might have a sticking governor.

I had one act kind of like that. it had a sticky gov and a small leak between the main case and the gov support.put a presure gage at the gov port and watch preasure as speed increases.also ck presure at accumulator sump to ck for pump output presure.paul
