Hi.I am new to the site and hope to decode my chrysler 383.The engine is in my truck I just got and is not original to the truck.I have some pics maybe they will help to identify. The block is orange but was definetely mopar engine green before. That and the commando badge (I didnt even see it till i got it home and I know they can be slapped on)have me wondering if its possibly an hp or other muscle car engine.Wishful thinking for sure but either way I need to know what engine to buy parts for. Thanks for any help anyone can give http://s1168.photobucket.com/albums/r487/johnandpam/

there is a casting number and casting date on the sides of the block, a number on the crank, a casting number on the heads between the valvesprings up top and a casting date such as 50670 for may 06 1970. some 383 heads are 2406516 - 1964-67, 2843906 - 1968-70, 3462346 - 71-72

All your important info is on a pad infront of the pass side cylinder head ( if it's a B engine). If its a Rb then there will be machined pad infront of the intake manifold (middle). There should be 3 lines of letters/numbers. You might have to sand of rust or paint to see them. The info is in the back of the mopar restoration catalog.
4 cylinders are only half a real motor.
