macaroo 1st off welcome to the MMM forum. I have a book from Mopar Performance "Hemi Engines" p4876824 that shows on page 96, the dipstick on the 331ci on the driverside rear of the engine & looks like it's behind the cylinder head in the block kind of inline with the intake bolts & close to the distributor. I don't know if the 1951-56 331ci are at all interchangable I don't think they are the 270 Hemi was a 1 year engine in Dodges only & 1955 Dodge 270ci Hemi not shown in any illistrations in any of my books. I'm not an early Hemi expert by any meens, I would do a Google search for illistrations on the 1955 270ci Dodge Hemi. There is a sorce for parts in the book "Hemi Engine" author L.S.Shepard,    Egge Parts House, Sante Fe Springs Ca. 1-800-866-5440,    Automotive Innovations Unlimited, Orange Ca. 1-714-639-7625,    Hyatt Engineering, Milpitas Ca. 1-408-946-2007,     Performance Automotive Wharehouse, Chatsworth Ca. 1-818-678-3203 (I don't know if the #'s are still good the book was published in 1998) That gives you some referances to start with all supplied info for the book so they may beable to shed some lite on the situation for you. Good luck.    Budnicks

Welcome to the forum Macaroo, I found a passenger side pic of a 1955 270 Hemi and there is no dipstick to be seen.,. so I would assume it's on the D/S.
The pics may be copyrighted, but I will send them to you, in a PM (Private Message)
Found one that's OK for posting here.

I sent 3 pics his way, plus one here, and even though the pics are all of the 1955 270 Hemi and as clear as a bell, the dipstick is not to be found on either side, I'm stumped.
I'll send you the pics in a PM, mebbe you can spot something I missed.

Thanks tuff I looked for a while couldn't find I guess the drawing I have in the Hemi book is not the same I thought it was a 331ci or 354ci hemi but it could have been a 270ci hemi I wasn't sure. Front drvr. side, dose it go thru the block or straight into the pan?   Budnicks
