Well i dont know if it is or not. If you guys dont know what I'm talking about, I just picked up the summer issue of popular hot roddings engine magazine and it's total crap. There's a complete 3-4 page story about the new hemi engine, but the first paragraph is basically a put down to all Mopat small block engines. I believe the wording was something like, "Mopar engines had few advantages, however subtle and unappreciated." Subtle an unappreciated!!!! I really think these guys that right articles for general make and model magazines better do some homework before they start laying down absolute stanky info.
Im not being a biased winer just cuz i love Mopars, but I'd seriously bout a 340 against a 351 or a 350 anyday. Boy does that pee me off!!
If I were a machine, I'd be a lot happier.

Yeah they said that Mopar small blocks "were always a distant third to Chevy and Ford", and said "Chrylser smallblocks were never a big hit."

i seriously dont think some of these writers at some other car magazine ever research anything beyond what they think they know about. i dont even know why i buy any magazine beyond the mopar ones i subscribe to.
time after time. these putdowns to mopars are insane. at least i have the joy of taking them out on the streets. If I were a machine, I'd be a lot happier.

I only buy other magazines than Mopar Muscle if they have an article on bodywork or painting or such. And I'm tired of sifting through pages upon pages of performance catalogs looking for Mopar stuff. And on an unrelated note it bugs the hell out of me when someone has like a '28 Ford T-Bucket...and they put a 350 Chevy in it. It's only courteous to have a matching brand engine. Well, that's the end of my rant.

I know wha tyou mean man. Chevy this and that is all there is anymore and I ma sick of it. I will be building a up a 406 stroker form a 360 next summer adn She'll have about 400 hp. My goal with that motor is to run 13 flats in the 1/4 w/my 68 fastback. What does that have to do with the price of tea in China?

One of my friends has a very mild 360 in a 64 Cuda. The motor came from a 78 cordoba. He did a stock rebuild on the bottom end aside from balancing and had the old iron heads ported. The cam is a simple 284/484 with stock rockers and shims. The Intake is a M1 sp with a thermoquade up top. The car has run a best of 11.92 @ 113. I havent yet seen a Chevy or Frod built so mild and put out that good E.T.

I still can't figure out why GM had and has so many different engine designs; Pontiac, Chevy, Buick and Olds. Haven't they got it right yet? I guess the jury is still out ...........
I have a feeling there's still more original 318's still pounding the pavement then 283's and 327's!!!

i agree. it's not that gm doesnt make a good engine, they just dont make the best engines. If I were a machine, I'd be a lot happier.

I agree with everyone out there! They are just jealous at the fact that Ma Mopar has put out some of the best and most powerful motors on the planet. I watched a show the other day on a muscle car show down. The Hemi Challenger would have kicked everyones butt if his clutch wasn't ready to go out. Even the driver stated this fact. The car still managed to pull 13 second runs with it bad. I say that is pretty impressive.

i recorded that show and boy was i more than a little disappointed. only one mopar showing for the entire event. i'da really liked to see an a-body with a 340 in the show, but i dont think they've ever doen a resto on one of them If I were a machine, I'd be a lot happier.

It's all about EGO's Cad engineers don't want chev specs in their cars and so on and so on. Even today GM Powertrain makes the engines, the different divisions of GM still let their ego's in the way. It 's not only about engines How many different horns, cigerret lighters etc... do they need??

Did you know that the famous Grumpy Jenkins worked for Yep good ole Chrysler in 68 or so. He P.O. the head mopar guys so they booted him out of the Hemi graces so to say. The only way Chevrolet could topple the mopars at the strip was to use the old power to weight trick yeah Gumpy kind of got them back in 72 though with tha Vegie thing.
The number one reason Chevies are so fast is due mostly impart to all the research and development that the aftermarket has done for them! If they only had their parts to go fast we would be close to on par with them.
But be happy that the mopars have shaft mounted rockers and 18 degree heads stock. Its sweet to see them pay 600 or so for a rigid valve train. A hole bunch more for 18 degree heads. To bad they make so much power with them though.
