I am giong to swap the distriburor on my 1978 aspen super coupe, it has a 360 small block v8 LA engine with Electronic lean burn (ELB). I need to know what year car to get a distributor off of from a junk yard.
I was thinking a 73 or 74. Does any one know?

You are better off getting the kit from Mopar. The part number for small blocks is P3690426 the best price on this that I have seen is from Westoaks Dodge 1-800-748-6118.

yes, I agree. I had a 265ci here in Australia with the standard ELB, and the thing never ran right - even from new in 1981 !!! I have now installed a really nice 360 - taken the ELB wiring out of the loom all together (easy job, starts from air cleaner and works back) in Australia here on our models we had the ceramic balast resistor - the wires at each end of that go together so you get a full 12volts, then the brand new electronic dizzy and coil from Mopar as you said - works perfectly.
cheers - Fletch NSW Australia.

For 360 distributors, you can check out as far back as 1971. The 360 was introduced in the big C bodies that year. The distributors of '71 and most '72s were points type. Electronic distributors became standard equipment in 1973.
If you find one at a boneyard, check the distributor shaft for any side-play. Also check the vacuum advance canister and see if it will hold vacuum. you may need a hand vacuum pump for this.

I would have to agree with " Goatheat" on a new distributer kit. Too often junck yard elictronic stuff is fried or too worn. It seems expencive for the blue coller guy, but it by-passes all the headaches.
