what would be a better transmission a 904 or a 727 torqueflite? and what is the difference between the two? i have a semi stock 318 that i plan on fixing up to squeeze out at least 300 hp, and i have both trannys at hand what would be the better of the 2. my car is a 1974 charger

Both are good but the 727 is a stronger trans it will stand up to more than the 904 and would be your best choice.

The 727 is stronger in factory form, but the 904 can be built to be durable and has the added advantage of lighter internals (Faster shifts). Several trannie companies sell beefy versions of both. Mike

For only 300 horse, I would use the 904. It's lighter, and has less reciprocating mass internally thereby less parasitic drag. Also, it will bolt right into your 318 car and won't need a shortened driveshaft.
