I am sure you have all heard this one before. I've been away from "vintage" Mopars for awhile so I need some help.
How does one identify an 8 1/4 Rear end? I can't seem to find a picture that clearly lets me identify what I've pulled from the wreckers. I know it's not a 7 3/4. The pumpkin and axle housings are bigger. I know it's not an 8 3/4 because the carrier doesn't come out thr front. It has a ten bolt cover, and lots of casting numbers, and a tab for the ratio.
It's got a 2852905 number, and either a 10325, or 10825, an A inside a circle, a 6, a 3, 198, 4, a circle with dots and an arrow, 2, and a 1. all cast into the housing. The tab says 2.45.
Help.

The number from your rear end shows that it is a 8.25 axle from a 1969-70 B body. These axles have ten cover bolts. The 7.25 inch has nine cover bolts, and is much smaller. The 2.45 tag is your gear ratio for the axle, as some chrysler products did have this low ratio. I hope this helps!

Hey thanks for the info. I took this 8 1/4 from a 74 Scamp A body. There's another one in the Pick N Pull on a 75 Scamp.
Wierd that it documents to a B body.

I would say the axle was swapped into the scamp from the previous owner. This has been done on many occasions. The perches have to be relocated inward a half inch each side since the B body rear is wider. The axle could be the original out of the scamp, since chrysler did use leftover parts to clear them out of stock, and some scamps came with the 8.25 axle. I'm glad the information helped!
