It will cost you the same to build a 400 HP 318 as it would to build a 450+ HP 360. 360's are still plenty, why not go to your local wrecking yd. and start with a 40 cubic inch advantage. Plus the 360 will bolt right up to your trans. with only a flex plate swap. Depending on the yr. the 360 may even use the same motor mts. Doc

Contact schumacher motor mounts to get the right info. I suspect an 88 360 would be the same as a 318 but I am not sure. I would contact schumacher on the net, they sell mts for all mopar applications. As far as making 400 HP with a 360 that is almost easy. If your using a pre. 1990 motor it will be a LA engine or the same as your 318. First source a block with a flex plate from any pre 90 mopar. If the compression is good and the oil pressure is good, you can likely use the engine and bolt on the speed equipment. I did this once with great success. The motor cost me $300.00 and bolted right into my 71 Swinger. I then installed a number of performance items. 1. First a good set of 1 5/8 headers. 2. RPM air-gap intake with a 750 Holley with down leg boosters, or for some more bottom end power, a 750 with annular discharge boosters. 3. Now you need to select a cam, I would recommend the comp cams .507 hydraulic. 4. To put this motor over the 400 hp range I would port and polish the heads and install the 2.02 intake valves with some good valve springs. Cut the heads .30 thousands and use a thin head gasket from mopar. 5. Your gonna need a descent ign. system, my favorite is the MSD 6AL, however the mopar performance ign. kit will do the job for about half the price. 6. To get the vehicle moving I would recommend a good 10" 3500 converter. 7. To finish off the vehicle you will need some extra cooling for the engine and the trans., rad and trans. cooler. 8. If you really want to fly you will want to install a good posi rear end with a gear ratio in the 3.73 range for the street. 9. If this is going to be a street strip vehicle go with some 4.10 gears. When your done, hang on cause your gonna fly. Doc
