i recently converted from auto(727) to manual(a833o/d). i have 3rd & 4th gear switched around. when i shift to 3rd its 4th gear. when shifting to 4th its 3rd gear. one mechanic said thats the shift pattern for this trans. its a 70s transmission. this the shift pattern?

the shifter pattern on your shifter inside the car is the same...

1  3
N.N
2 4

on the side of the case.. the bolt on shift lever are reversed on the shift shaft closest to the front of the trans..

this reverses the action inside the case...

so moving the shifter into 3rd  locks the input shaft to the output shaft  (normally a 4th gear position..

when moving the shifter into 4th position.. it pulls it out of direct .. and locks it into the overdrive position..

since the cluster and some of the other gears have been changed in the case...  the output shaft is overdriven

just locate the bolt on the shift lever & reverse them?

i missed that part...    take the forward most  lever off..   if it was down.. move it up...   if it was up .. move it down..

then readjust the shift linkage with the levers locked with a properly sized drill ***  usually 3/16.. perhaps other sizes..

sometimes i miss the question... and answer with the  theory..

u could leave it as is but from mopar the 3+4 arm was mounted down. adjust linkage as needed. the standard non overdrive mopar 833 arms both mount going up. all reverse gear arms mount pointing down. gear cars rule
