Ok so I have a 67' 383 crank and want to put it in my 97' 318 can it be done? And would putting bigger fuel injectors on my truck worth it??? Or does it really not do much? I have so many questions for I'm new to the game so expect to hear alot from me and everone on this site has been very very helpful

NO. And there would be no gain if you could since they both have the same stroke. If you put bigger fuel injectors in you will need to reprogram the computer, and the gain would be minimal at best. 97 318 in a truck, whats the problem? Little motor, big truck. The best upgrade would be a 360, again you would have to reprogram or replace the computer if this was done.

Some basic info : A 383 is a B-motor (big block). A 318 is an A-motor (small block). I can't think of any interchangeable parts.

If you put a 360 in they are identical to look at. You will gain a ton of torque and HP. Chances are the 360 will pass the e-test as well as the 318. Doc

Ok so your saying swap the whole motor or just switch out some parts? Also I read that you cant just simply put 360 heads on a 318 for it would lower compression is this true? And if that was the case would you need the block to be decked or actually have head work done or both?

Switching heads to 360 will lower the compression on a 318, in fact you will likely make less power by doing this. The best bang for the buck is to swap out a complete 360, try getting the same yr. most of the hookups will be the same. You will still need to upgrade to the 360 ECU, or engine computer. The reason the 360 is so much stronger is it has a longer stroke with the crankshaft. This will really help get that heavy pickup running strong. Doc
