Help...the battery in our 1977 Dodge Tradesman with a 318 v8 went flat.We started the engine with jump leads and it was ticking over ok.When my son removed the leads from my car,he accidentally shorted the leads together. The engine in the Dodge died and even with a new battery will not now start,no spark. It has an electronic ignition module fitted.Have checked all fuses, including a white ceramic type mounted on the bulkhead.Engine turns over and have 12v at the coil.Where should I check next, any ideas? Thanks guys.

if the coil has  power to the positive side..

its probably the ignition module...   see if the coil sparks when you turn off the key...

remember.. the electronic ignition only controls the negative side of the coil....

does your amp meter move????

i would like to know.. if you have switched  power to all 4 terminals of the white ballast resistor....

most autozones and a few other chain parts stores can test the ignition modules if you take it off and carry it in..

you might also want to do a voltage drop test...

between the body and the negative battery...

set your digital volt meter to 20 volts DC scale...     turn the head lights on...     measure from the negative battery post to the body... you should get a reading of less than 0.02 volts...

remember.. the engine and body both have to be grounded to the battery properly...   the voltage drop test can only be done with load on the wiring..   the negative battery post to engine block voltage drop test really needs to be done when the engine is being cranked.. or the engine is running as the alternator is putting out voltage...

there is a small chance that  you may have blown a fusible link...    check them at the bulk head connector...  and on some of the years.. there are hidden fusible links in the harness... where the main harness crosses the top of the hood opening..    but i think that is on a later model than yours...
