I also was trying to obtain details for my 73 Challenger concerning #'s matching powertrain, etc. I wrote a letter to Chrysler "Historical Collection" as advised by some gal at Chrysler. Here's an excerpt of the reply I got from them:
Unfortunately we are unable to supply this information for the build record of your vehicle. The microfilm that contained model year 1968 and newer information was accidentally destroyed years ago before it could be sent to archives. No other info pertaining to your vehicle exists with the company.
Isn't that amazing? Bottom line is I don't know how you could find the info you want but if anyone else has an idea I would also be interested.

The last six numbers of the VIN, called confidential numbers, are stamped into the engine and tranny in certain locations. Unfortunately I can't remember where they are on your beeper. It's been a long time since I researched this info. Perhaps you can find out from the insurance company auto theft squad. I used these guys in the past. If the confidential numbers match the last six of the VIN then the engine and tranny is original. Remember, Galen may have the build sheet for your car.

http://www.stockmopar.com/mopar-vin-decoder.php, you can use this site to help decode car using vin# from dash, also the engine block will be stamped on the underside. If available the fender tag offers all the other vitals on the car. Good luck.
