Hi there, My name is Curtis ive always been a big fan of the 440 RB wedge engines. Ive got one finnally! its a 74 year engine & came out of a motorhome. It has the 6pack crank & rods, im getting the block bored .030 over & deck'd. I was looking for advice on if the holley double pumper could be used. Some people tell me a carb with mechanical secondaries will accually flood an engine out. is this true? Also, i have a brand new cam just laying around & its a .484" lift 241degree duration mopar purple cam. Will this cam robb a considerable amount of vacume, i need decent vacume because the vehicle its goin in is my 1/2 ton 85dodge 4x4, and as far as i know the transfer case shift mechanisms run off of vacume? Any help would be of great assistance.

Too much cam.
A dbl pumper on the big side 'cfm' & improperly tuned will be a real drag to drive, tuned right..will run decent but with awesome top end. One on the matched to small side 'cfm' & improperly tuned not so bad, half way decent, but tuned will run like a bat outta hell AT/MT and all controlled by your right foot. When you want 'wot', you got it. If you go dbl, get a 830 annular, you can add a choke to it if necessary depending on the weather condition in your area.
If you can't tune carburetors and aren't gonna match gears to the cam=3.91-4.10 then go with a 750-800cfm vac sec holley , maybe annular for 4x4 like the 'street avenger series' 870cfm model.

74 block you might want to sonic test that thing before you start boring it, this way you can see wall thickness and core shift (towards the thrust area),650 dbl pump will work fine, with that little cam you are NOT gonna loose that much vacuum, just measure vacuum and select the power valves 1 # lower than the vacuum reading,example;10in.hg 9.0 power valves front and rear, start with #35 shooters, set the air/fuels with a hand held vacuum guage, and hang on! the holley 4150 or 4500 are the best carbs for the money, but you need to tune them, and it is not hard, read your plugs for getting the jetting down. BTW,I would recommend 2200 stall on the torque conv. I recommend Frank Lupos Dynamic,or trans specialties. for a conv. for that cam choice.

you'll see around 8in.hg of vac with that cam.
You'll only need 28's with red cams and 6.5 power valves.

I suggest getting the total package balanced. as far as cam what is your axle gear ratio? the 241 cam u have is possible. go with a 750 mechanical edelbrock/carter carb. tell us more about total combo/etc.
