I just took apart my 440 Morpar and replaced the camshaft, timing chain and rebuilt the carburetor. When I try to start the bad boy gas it squirts gas out the top of the carburetor. It wont even think of starting. I found my number one spot on the distributor by taking the spark plug out of 1 and turned the engine it till we felt the air pop out.. It seems there might be two blasts of air in one rotation...
Does this mean the can shaft is incorrect even though it should be the correct one for the engine? It seemed to line up fine with the lifters... I am completely lost and really dont want to pull the engine again.. ANY ADVISE IS MUCH APPRECIATED!
The carburator should not be blowing any air out.. What did I ***
Thanks, Jon

Make sure the floats arent stuck in the carb.... take the carb off and check it out. I had this happen to me once....

Just because pressure is coming out of # 1 that doesn't necessarily mean you are at TDC. What you need to do is remove the rocker cover on the left side. Crank the motor over until the #1 intake valve just starts to move. Check the timing mark on the crank pulley. If it is pointing at or near zero degrees timing you have found TDC. Now remove the cap and be sure to note were the ign. rotor is pointing to. This is # 1. Your firing order for a typical V8 Dodge, 1,8,4,3,6,5,7,2. After this if it still does not fire check the carb floats and make sure they are set correct and not causing the carb to flood. Good Luck Doc
