Hi, I am planning to install an under dash air conditioner/heater in my 69 Plymouth Fury. I know these units are readily available in the market but I was just wondering if anyone had any good or bad experiences that they might like to share i.e what brands work for you and what dosent. If you are wondering about the heater component, I recently 'reconditioned' the heater in the Fury. It works but let's be honest it's not really the best heating technology. That's why I have decided to go for a heating/cooling unit instead of cooling on its own.
Thanks,

some aftermarket units have been accused of not properly cooling..  the air temp never drops cold enough...

someone on another forum found the temp limit sensor was not cold enough...  so it shut off the compressor at a evaporator temp that was too warm...  the car or truck never reached the arctic temps or even temps that are acceptable..

you might want to pull the seats and carpet first and install some proper thermal insulation...

you can also do it by removing the head liner... but usually you will have to replace the headliner with a new one..

pull the door panels..   work some of the stick on insulation  sheets on the inside of the door skins...

pull the rear interior panels... stick some insulation on the inside of the quarter panels...

you can also install it on the inside panels of the doors  that really makes it quiet...

i know people who have had exhaust system pipe bending professionals... take the exhaust off the car...  duplicate the bends in larger diameter pipe.. then cut the new larger pipe in half..  so there is an upper and a lower half...  they just install the upper half over the existing pipe...  adding a few tabs and welding it on every foot or so... this half upper reduces the infrared heat that warms the floors of the cars...  the space between the exhaust pipe and the upper pipe allows air circulation..

i am not saying that you have to do all of these... they are just things you should think about..

how are the window and door rubbers also..????

there are also new solar films for the side and rear glass.. that are almost clear... some thing in the material that blocks some of the sunshine... check this site... it will take a while.. but you will find several products..

search for solar window films...
