we purchased a motor home pace arrow 1979 and were told that it had a 440 magnum, my husband cant find any numbers or doesnt know where to look. I figured i would come to the experts and pick your guys'iz brains.. so what should i tell him to look for, or give him some insight on how to find out what this engine is.
The pad by the dist. will have an engine size marked. Also the block will have a casting number behind the left motor mount above the starter. Doc
If the motor is original to the motorhome, it's not a Magnum. There were no 440 Magnums built in 1979. If it's a replacement engine, somebody could have put a Magnum in it. Some of the differences between a standard 440 and the Magnum version are different camshaft and carb. The fellow above is right about where to find the numbers you need to identify what you have. No magnums were in motorhomes. What spark plug is in it? Motorhomes of your vintage used different heads & took an odd spark plug. Give me your dodge chassis vin # ( not your Pace Arrow vin ). It is located inside step area or on drivers wall & should begin with an M . I have parts catalogs & extra parts if you need anything . I have a 78 pace arrow. Barry
RACE CARS - NOT GREYHOUNDS
I have a 78 sports coach 33' with a 440 engine. It is a heavy duty truck engine with 452 heads. I have a 71 440 magnum engine, and a 75 440 interceptor. On the boss pad it will say 440 HP or 440 EHP . The "E" stands for cast crankshaft. If there is no HP, HP2, EHP it is not a magnum.
I bought a X cop car with a 440 police interceptor, without my parents permission,in late 80s and of course had to return it. But,that was one fun day ! Any wasThe person I bought it from sold it to the local Gas station . They rebuilt it and put it in a motor.! Location was Lakeside ,Oregon about 15 miles from Coos Bay Oregon FYI
