i have a 727 TF trans which is leaking around the shift seal. i have replaced the seal once but began leaking again eventually. there seems to be excessive play on the shift shaft when a gear is selected (wobbling side to side) which is causing the seal to fail.
am i able to get a new bush for the shift shaft?
or do i need a whole new valve body?
any help would be welcomed!

hi, first you have to determine if the shaft has wore out the case bore or if the shaft/rooster comb is turning in each other ( its two parts silver soddered together ) there is two ways of repair, one is a expensive boring tool to resleave the case ( not likely for a one time repair ) or if your lucky enough to have a transmission parts supply house in your area, ask for a new rooster comb and a superior#ko71 kit. you should bring the old parts to compare. be careful when you remove the roostercomb, the detent ball is under spring pressure and likes to fly off to places unknowen. also when installing the new parts, make sure the manual valve is engaged. superior does have a tool to hold the detent ball in place, but i don'nt know if you can buy it seperate, usualy comes with their shift kit. there is a neat little tool that removes/installs the lever seal from the outside. inexpensive and should be in every moparmans toolbox. napa and most of the higher end parts stores should carry it.
