I have a 72 Dodge dart and ive gotten bored with the 318. I have a 413 max wedge that i managed to aquire through trade. The motor is in good condition except for the intake. The dilema is that ive had various people say it would be a waste to put it in my dart, it wont fit, or its just wrong to put it in my car etc... So 1)Will it fit in my car. 2)If not why? 3)Whats wrong with wanting to use that motor cause if a 440 will fit why wont a 413? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

It will fit, will it perform? That all depends on what has been done to the beast.
Fact is this is a dinasor of an engine. My 360 Satellite dusted one of these motors by a full second in a similar size car.
Thats right a small block whipped the old 413.
So why go to all the trouble of installing a nose heavy big block when a small block can and will run better with a lot less hassle.

If it's a true max wedge, I guess it's a T-Rex?  Anyway, your biggest issue will be that there isn't alot of aftermarket goodies for the internals for that engine.  I can tell you though that I've talked to alot of old-timers that preferred it to the 440 in performance and longevity, but that's just opinions...

Thanks for the info! It was a free motor and the 318 was a little worn out anyways. The only thing done to the motor was a fresh rebuild and a .020 overbore. As for putting a 440 instead of the 413 I wanted to do something different because there are a lot of 440s in A bodies and to me doing something different is what keeps the car from being boring!

70 cuda $175.00? Man I wish I'd known..
a piece of trim goes for more than that on e-bay.

I here ya, I think we all sold stuff for nothing at one point. Don't need anything at the moment.

Just for the record, What oil pan would be better for the 413 to fit in the Dart, a center sump or front sump??
