I just purchased a 66 Satellite with a stock 4barrel Cast iron manifold and engine. It is orange and not like my old Belvedere that had the same engine except two barrel and red. Is this engine in this newest car rare or what is the story behind it. looking to be educated any response concerning this would be appreciated thanks

Poly 318 was not a rare find in the 60's. Today it would be considered some what rare however it was nothing special. I had a 65 Sport Fury with the 4 Barrel dual exhaust poly motor. It was replaced in 67 with the 318 LA motor which was a superior piece in every way.

Only by weight, the ability to change heads to something better, and intake/exhaust choice.

too bad they didn't lighten up that poly and put better poly heads on it, oh wait you can bolt hemi heads on a windsor poly.....
age is no lock on brillance

It was also called the " semi-hemi ",because the heads were cast hemi's, Chrysler's attempt at an economical hemi design, since machined hemi's were expensive to produce. They were used in trucks a lot. They can be bored and stroked to a fare-the-well, because of the thick walled casting. I've seen some on web-sites, bored .090 over, with a stroker kit taking them up to 406 cubes.
I have one in my Satellite, with a Weiand manifold and Holley 700 that really scoots. I don't know what's in the motor, it changed hands several times before I bought it. There are web sites that deal with this motor. Just Google 318 Poly.
If I ever had to rebuild it, I'd probably just swap in a 383 or 413, for about the same money as a rebuild.

You know I hear how poly motors suck on this forum and others. But for the same reasons I dont have a Camaro GTO Mustang other more popular Muscle cars era vehicles I own a 66 Satellite with a poly 318 4 barrel. I am not main stream and in reality I wont be racing this car and I got it for a daily driver. I always liked the look of the GM 349/409 "real Hemis 426 and such of course 318 poly. They run great and this one is suppose to have a 245 HP rating. The one curious thing is on the balancer has a Direct Connection with a degreeing label on it. Any hints or input what this could be?
I have had a hipo 273 and a LA318 and they ran great so I have nothing against these blocks they're great however i will keep the poly.
