I REBUILT A 440 IN THE WIFES 66 CHARGER. MOLLY RINGS NEVER SEATED CHUGGED,GUTLESS,HUGE BLOWBY, BLEW THE VALLEY PAN UP. I PULLED THE PISTONS, RAN A 400 BALL HONE IN EACH CYL. FOR 45 SECONDS (.001), RERINGED, BROKE IT IN CAREFULLY AT VARIES SPEEDS AND NOW ITS PERFECT.. BUT YOUR PROBLEM IS BAD PLUG WIRES, THEY DONT FIRE UNDER A LOAD UNTIL THE RPMS COME UP AND THE LOAD LESSENS. MARK.

WHAT?????

IM NOT BS ING YOU. CRAPPY PLUG WIRES GIVE LOW VOLTAGE AT THE PLUG. THE PLUG WILL SPARK SITTING ON YOUR VALVE COVER, BUT WONT SPARK UNDER A LOAD/ COMPRESSION. CHANGE YOUR PLUGS AND WIRES. IT WILL HELP.

I changed the plug wires. It hasn't chugged my last 10 trips. Seems to be running much better. Thanks for the heads up on the wires. I never used to have to put more than 93 octane in it. Maybe the new wires will change that?? I'm going to run the 110/93 mixture out and try straight 93.

Still blowing a small amount of oil since I put dual pcv valves on it and T'd them to the carb. I need to pull the intake still and replace the gaskets again. I never had a problem with crankcase pressure until Gouger Racing had me totally plug the passenger side valve cover.

It's slow on the take off though. I changed the 3:91 gears to 3:23 a while back for economy.....if there is sucha thing. I get about 11mpg.

Are you still not running vacuum advance? You need vacuum advance on a street car. Your mileage and performance on the street will both suffer without it. If you're running a total of 37 degrees advance on just the distributor without any vacuum advance, that's way too much. Hate to bring up another mag, but in the Feb 2010 Mopar Action, there's a nice article on vacuum advance and why you need them on the street.

Well, I have played around with VA. Not sure which works best. Unfortunately, the car hasn't been out of the garage in a month. The weather sucks, and there's snow and salt on the ground. Let's pick this up in the spring. Happy Holidays!
