suspension update

I have a 1969 Dodge Charger that the suspension is pretty much shot on, and I am looking at redoing it. I am not sure if I want to go with a original style suspension or to update it to a more modern suspension. The problem I have is that I am not sure which modern car would be best to use as a donor car for the newer suspension or if there is anyone out there that makes a modern style suspension system/kit that might be a better match for what I am looking for.
oh, also, the engine that I am planning on dropping into this car, since I got it without an engine or transmission, is a 528 crate motor from Mopar Performance. Not sure it that is info that will effect the suspension advice, but there it is. Thank.

Yes, engine choice is a factor in setting up the suspension as the difference in weight between small block, big block, and hemi is enough to require different choices in spring rates.
Before making any recommendations though, what is your budget, what is the intended usage, what are your expectations, what is your skill level at fabrication, how extensive is your tool kit?
Budget-a few hundred, a few grand, $10k? Will it be a show cruiser, street cruiser, drag racer, road racer? How do you define ride/handling? Do you want it to launch like a Pro Stock, ride like a honda, handle like a vette? Do you have the tools, experience and ability to cut measure and weldin structural components?
There are ways of making the stock stuff perform very well. There also are a number of aftermarket suspension designs that perform a variety of tasks very well when configured correctly. There are no modern cars that have systems that are a direct fit, but with a plasma, mig gun, and a lot of diligence, some things could be made to work. You'd alos better be real good with math and geometery if you are redesigning some other vehicles suspension to your Charger if you want to avoid dynamic interference issues.
