Can anyone suggest what would be the best brand and type intake and best matched 4 barrel carb for my 318cid? I know Edelbrock and Weiand, don't know if one works better than the other and with what carb. Thank You

An Edelbrock Performer works well on a street machine. You can find them used often on Ebay. Sometimes you can find and old LD340. These are great for street use. Use a carb around 600cfm. A Holley will give better upper rpm performance, but an Edelbrock is easier to tune for street use. You can get good buys on a used intake, but never by a used carb unless you know the buyer. 915J heads flow better than X heads and are sometimes cheaper. You will have to mill them to get the cc's you need. Don

I don't know for sure, but with the slightly larger combustion chamber and 2.02 intake valves; I've heard that you have to knotch the cylinder deck to accomidate the X heads.
If this is untrue I'd be interested as I have a set of X heads as well as the factory cast iron exhaust header type manifolds.
