Hi I have a 65 dodge coronet 500. Im thinking of swaping out my 727 automatic for a A833 4 speed with an overdrive if I can find one. Will this tranny need any beefing up because its going behind a 440 big block and  I dont want the thing to explode on me.

Thanks Joe

hi, if you want to do this swap, try to find a tranny that has the cast iron case. but now comes the tricky part. the o/d bearing retainer won't fit the big block bell housing. its to large because they used a larger front bearing. you will have to find someone capable of machining the bell housing. also check where the shifter bolts on to make sure it comes through the floor in the right spot. as far as being bullet proof, you can break anything if you try hard enough. you should drive in 3rd most of the time since that is 1:1 and leave 4th for cruising down the highway. iam going to try the same thing in a 72 challenger but with a 408 stroker with a391 gear. should be intressting. iam not sure if the gear ratio in 1st and 2nd is the same as a regular 833. thats it, all i know for now untill i try myself. goodluck!
