This should show how novice of a builder I really am.
From the stock air box there is a routing to the exhaust manifold. Nice and big almost the size of a radiator hose but slinky like.
Now when everyone switches to those nice shiney edlebrock air cleaners this seems to diappear. Is it just not used? What about the large hole in the exhaust manifold?
Also on the passenger side as well hose goes into the valve cover.

The big flex hose is just sucking hot air from around the exhaust manifold. Good for a daily driver, especially in cold weather. Not so good for performance.
The hose going from the inside of the air filter to the oil breather on the valve cover is where your PCV system sucks in clean air. Most aftermarket air cleaners will have an optional nipple that can be attached to the bottom housing, so you can re-connect the hose.
