Hi,

I have a 76 Volare with a 318 and auto tranny. I am going to be picking up a 383. How involved is the swap going to be? Will I need anything I am not thinking of like a crossmember from a big block car?

I forgot to add it has the factory 904 tranny, will I need a new driveshaft and yoke?

Not only will you need a trans. you will need a drive shaft shorted as well.
Why not install a LA 360, or pre 92 360. You will save money and the engine will bolt right in place of a 318. The 360 can be made to run harder than a 383 with simple bolt on's, and you will not need to change the trans. although a 727 should be installed if you are going to really step up the 360 level of power.

i don,t think they make a  F-body big block K- frame

a 904 out of 76- 78 cordoba is another option, steel planetary gear sets,make them stronger inside .less mass more power to the ground

Hi Jason, i have done a small block to bigblock swap in an a body car, (75 Duster) and you can use the crossmeber that is in the car, however when I did my swap I had to cut the engine mounts out and then re-weld them into the car. I cut them off, then attached them to the new bigblock engine, dropped it in the car, made sure the engine was centered in the frame and then re-welded them in the new location. Cut the engine mounts off as close to the frame meber as possible, I also used fenderwell headers for the car but you can use conventional headers and everything will still fit, it's a tight squeeze but when you are done and you mash the gas you will be very happy with the result. good luck.

I forgot to mention that I used a 727 torque flight auto with reverse patern valve body it fit in and bolted right up to the big block I used (440 stroked to 510") I noticed someone answered your queary about the K member the Volare is an "A" body car not and F body car. The duster, demon, Scamp, Volare, and 76 Roadrunner were all built on the same platform.

I did a proper 75 duster  600hp big block swap K- frame and all.The F-body Volare&Aspen started in 1976 K- frame #4001650.
1975 A-body k-frame #3466471.1976 A-body #4001713.Those are factory,#,s small v-8, #2883999 last produced in 1969 is the K-frame# for a proper A- body swap for big block even a 1975 duster.

any one that needs any pre 80,s mopar #,s I have a Direct Connection Performance Book I got it at the dealership i worked at in 82 or so,Ithas every Dodge # related to perfomance from every motor dodge built pre 80,also tran,s ,rear axles,suspension,body,s,stock to all out race spec,s

Thanks for the help guys, I've decided not to do the big block swap. I picked up a mildly built 360 that I plan to swap in, just looking for a 727 now.

This is actually my first mopar, I was raised on everything GM.
