I'm a first time mopar owner with a 78 Ramcharger and I just aquired a 74 440. It's got 64k original miles and I want to rebuild it to go in the Ramcharger which will be my off-road rig. There is tons of information on 440 builds for the street but I haven't seen many for off road. I want to build it for maximum torque off idle to about 5k. I spoke to the guys at Racer Brown and they suggested a single pattern cam .220 duration and .460 lift with 112 LCA. I'm using stock 906 heads and I'm .shooting for between 9 to 9.5 CR. Things get tricky here because I want to run TBI for obvious reasons in a 4X4. In order not to screw up the MAP sensor I need a cam that will pull at least 16 inches of vacuum at idle. In Chevys, the limit is usually .218 duration with 112 LCA and .220 with 114 LCA. I have had a hard time locating anyone that makes 440 cams greater than 112 LCA. I know MP has a purple cam P445273 ground on 115 LCA but it is a split pattern with 228/242 duration. Anyone have any experience with this cam and its effects on manifold pressure or recommendations of for other cams for my application? Here are the vehicle specs
1978 Ramcharger 74 440 9:1 CR with 906 heads 727 4.10 gear ratio 203/205 doubler transfer case 38 inch tires

That mp sounds good to me, but If you call engle cams and tell chriswhat your doing he can make up a custom grind for you, what ever center line you want=114?
age is no lock on brillance

Thanks for the reponse....I like the specs on the MP cam but I think even with the 115 LCA with the amount of duration it might still be too much overlap to pull enough vacuum at idle. I'll check with engle and see what they say!
