Disagree, the car is awesome, the style is twice what the mangum ever was, and it performs even better.  

Looks good to me, I'm not super impressed with it's performance, But it's the only new car I've even considered buying in the last 20yrs besides the viper.

I think it looks pretty good, but I can't believe it costs 60 grand. I don't have any problem with new cars, my dream car is actually a BMW M3 (yeah, yeah I know). I think the performance could be better for 60 grand. The magnum is one of the ugliest cars on the road, its like a station wagon that thinks its a charger.  

Agreed. Too many bells and whistles. A muscle car should be basic. Horsepower,crank up windows and not much else. And an option sheet to build it the way you want if you need more than that.
Seems they missed the point. {Again} Back in the day if you wanted semi-performance/luxury in an overweight oversized overpriced 2dr barge you bought a Hurst 300.  

Guys, I think the car is great. It rides better than any factory Challenger ever built, it handles better than any factory Challenger ever built, and is just as fast--if not faster--than any factory Challenger ever built--depending on driver. I guess differences of opinion are what makes the world go around. I am just happy we finally got a two-door, rear wheel drive car, with 400+ horsepower car.  

Yeah it's "nice". Just imagine how much faster it'd be and much better it would handle if it weighed 3400 or so. And how much more affordable it'd be if they'd lose all the bells and whistles.
 The average Joe can't go the price,unless you want a weak-suck V-6. An option sheet would sell alot more cars.
How would I order mine? Base,5.7,manual trans,manual windows,radio delete,PB{no anti-lock},and since it's hot here,A/C.     Airbag delete should be an option also.
Gimme a throttle cable instead of a gizmo, and no MDS while we're at it. Get rid of four hundred pounds of wiring,relays,motors and modules etc.
It's entirely possible to build an affordable factory hotrod. Chrysler Corp seems to have forgotten how. RoadRunner anyone?  

The theroy of stripping down the Challenger will definitely save weight, but it's a fact that will not happen at the factory. The government has mandated weight-gaining items like air bags, anti-lock brakes, saftey this, and saftey that, and therefore the weight is high.

Now, don't blame the government or Chrysler for the problem. Americans have been sue-happy for for so long that even if an accident was an individual's fault, this individual found a way to sue the car manufacturer because their (insert friend or family member here)was killed as a result of an accident, and it doesn't matter that either the car owner or driver were negligent (speedng, driving impaired, or whatever), and had their head up there...you get the picture and caused the crash.

We complain that the government is too involved with our lives, but we as Americans (not all individuals), keep forcing them to get involved. Cars are what they are, because of an overall American mindset.  

Sad but true. I don't mind the bags so much,it's the rest of the overly complex crap I have no use for.  
I drove a mildly built 383/4spd'70 Challenger for years, had a serious love affair with that car. Ran 13.80s at the track,about 135mph on the highway.  Was an A66 coded 340 car from the factory,340 was toast when I got it. {Trying to buy it back BTW}
Just wish Mother would offer a similar package today. Good looks,decent performance,no frills at a price we could stand.
 $30k+,plus interest and insurance just to have a V-8? About $10-12k too high seems to me.  

Yes, very true. The weight of new cars just keeps going up due to the reasons cited by RB-plus all the comfort and convenience items the typical consumer expects these days. Still, even at that the pork they can pack into something the size of VW Golf is simply amazing.  

I have heard many people complain about the new challenger but many are unfounded. The car looks great,
376 hp, a tough T6060 6 speed, awesome handling, decent gas mileage, and a 30k price tag for an R/T isn't bad.
Granted it weighs too much, but you can blame the extra heft on meeting todays safety rating standards. There is no way around that unless you want it to crumble in a side impact. I have a 73 w/ a 440, and I still would like to own a new challenger, before it goes the way of the dinosaurs.  

They still are nice... I would still like to get one someday.... maybe in 5 years..
