I'am having trouble finding a budget(cheap) rearend for my duster.I was told a 92 to 96 5.0 Mustang rearend would fit in my Duster with little problem and would handle my 318...Is this true? Mustang rearends are easy and cheap to find,thats why i'am asking....  

I'm not sure if it will fit, I'd keep it all Mopar by finding an 8 1/4 A-body rear end from a 70 t0 75 duster, Dart, Valiant, or Dart Sport.  

ya know, Im with de fish. I hate to see peaple bastardize different makes (excuse the termonalogy) Even the fact that peaple put 9 inch fords in a lot of rides. Thats ok I guess for brand X ers'.Not mopar in my opinion. And not to put anybodys rides down. I think the 8.75 is a great rear. 2nt best to a dana 60. Peaple think since it has a 9" ring gear its stout. The ring gear is not where the abuse comes from. Its the pinion. If ya cant find a rear let me know. There is plenty of good rears around here, that will bolt up to your application  

keep it mopar, dont have anyhting to do with ford in your duster  

A rear end from a 72 Maverick will work. I almost done this to mine. The pinion is shorter and you'll have to find a longer driveshaft. I changed my mind and just stayed with the 8 1/4 with a suregrip. Life is good.

If you want to use a ford rear, use the 8.8 from a ford explorer SUV its almost the correct size (1 inch shorter I think) and it already has the 5 bolt drums.  If you want to stick with mopar and have a 8 3/4 get your self a c-body diff and cut the ends off and have new ends welded on from a company "Gears r us" or even "Summit racing" carries them then all you need are a set of axles which are available from "Yukon gear and axle" , install some "Green bearings" and you are all set.  Have a good welder install the new ends at 52 1/2.  The ford option would be a lot easier and cheaper and you can get more gear combinations cheaper.  

I have a Mustang 8.8 installed in my Duster (is for sale,see post)It was easy I have a set of 5 lug axles on the way.So if someone one wants to buy a Duster see my post "74 Duster 4 sale" I put alot of work into her.would make agreat street car

randys r&p(1-866-246-5686)They have large bolt pattern axles for 118.00 bucks ea.They mite even throw ya a deal with the green axle package pressed on,longer wheel studs.Good luck on your 8.75  

First, Mustang axles are the same from 87-93 (8.8 in 8 cylinder cars only).  In 94 they changed to rear disk, and the axles are slightly wider.  In 99, they got wider again.

Mustangs have an upper/lower control arm arrangement, so at a minimum you're going to have to chop some of the existing mounts off and weld in new spring perches.

8.8s are really strong.  With 31 spline stuff in there, it would take a lot of abuse.  However, I'm with these guys. Try to dig up an 8-3/4 and save yourself a ton of hassle and hybridizing your car.  

Save your self a lot of grief and install a dodge rear end. For a 318 an 8 1/4 will do and there a dime a dozen. Everything bolts in no hassle.
If you think you are ever going to drag race your car with slicks than spend the extra cash and find an 8 3/4, again bolt in no hassle.  

How about using a 9 1/4 rear out of a 97-2003 dakota such as in the r/t's?
