Hey, has anybody out there fitted a gear vendors under/overdrive to an A body?? Sounds like its an easy fit to a B or E body but I've got an Australian Charger  which runs an A body floor pan. The gearbox is a 727 which runs the long 18" extension housing. It would be great to hear from somebody who has done the job as I'm sure the guys who sell them will tell you they fit anything!

I have not put one in an A body but am in the process of installing one in an E body. Everything seems to fit as described both when i spoke to them and per the instructions.  I would suggest you talk to the folks at gv. They seem to be forthcoming and will more than likely give you an honest answer.  My brother also installed one in his prostreet 55 chevy pickup and has had good luck with it.

Thanks for the info Ken. They sure sound like a great piece of equipment - cant wait to hear my car shift through 6 gears!! I was keen to find out if or how much floor pan modification was required as my car is not much more than a rolling shell at the moment so now would be the time to make neccesary adjustments. I don't know of any being fitted to Mopars in Australia so your info is very helpfull. Thanks

I cant speak for an A body but I have about 1/4 clearance between the tunnel and the overdrive. Its not alot but it fits with no mods to the sheetmetal.

BTW- search for koister in readers rides and take a look at the challenger that i am building.  I would post some pics of the overdrive install but i am building in my brothers shop 1500 miles from where i live. I travel back there once a month to work on it. I will be back there the first week of november. I will take some pics of the gv overdrive and post them at that time.

Man thats a big commute to work on your car! You must be pretty dedicated to the cause. I got in touch with GV and there is some very minor clearancing work to be done to an A body but NO cutting so I'm pretty happy about that! Apparently there are two places that require a small 'pocket' to be tapped into the tunnel to clear a couple of bolts so thats not too bad. I can't bear the thought of belting my two pack floor pan to put them in there though! I guess its only paint and I think it will be well worth it. I put a Tremec TKO in my Valiant sedan a couple of years ago and that ended up with about 1/4inch clearance in a couple of spots and I've never had a problem with it touching so you should be fine.
Thanks again for your info, I'll check out your car in readers rides later on today.

Hey Ken, I just finished drooling over the pics of your car in readers rides - I gotta say that is exactly how a 70 challenger should be! You've obviously put in some serious work to get it to that stage and I wish you the best of luck for getting it finished in time for march. Strangely I too am aiming at a march finish date for my Aussie Charger, but its not quite as high profile as your bas ass hemi! Still it is mini tubbed and should run close to 600hp on a stroker small block so hopefully it should be some fun. I'm just learning how to drive my computer at the moment so once I work out how to get pictures on there I'll put some of my own into readers rides. Not quite as impressive as your car but it keeps me busy and poor just the same!

I look forward to seeing some pictures of your charger. Send me an email when you post the pictures. ken.oister@siemens.com. Just because your car is not as over the top as mine doesnt meant it wont be just as cool. 600 hp is plenty.  Good luck in achieving your March completion date. Stay in touch maybe we can trade some war stories. If building them was easy then everyone would be doing it.
Ken
btw- I know what you mean about "keeps me busy and Poor"
