I am rebuilding my stock 1976 440 and I think the compression is 8-1 and I would like to get it to 9-1 or 9:5-1. I have to buy a rebuild kit but instead of getting the same piston (mine has an impression in the top) is there another that I could buy to get better compression? Any suggestion for a cam that would help - I am not racing, just a crusier, but I will be putting on an Edelbrock Performer intake with Edelbrock 750 cfm Avenger.
Thanks - Liam

Speed-Pro has a piston that yields 9.4 compression when used with a head volume of 88cc., or your standard open chamber head. With this much compression you can use the mopar 474 cam with good drivability and power. The Performer intake is a good choice, a 750 carb is also a good choice.

If your not gonna put a stock or 'factory perf stock' cam in it, start at 10.1 for compression.
