Hey guys i was thinking of an engine to build. From hughes engines their 426 stoker kit which with a 65cc head will make a 9.74 to 1 Compression ratio. The top end i would get is the indy kit http://www.hughesengines.com/partDetail.asp?partID=12405&eTypeID=1.

I was wondering what kind of HP and TQ this would make on a 727. i would like it to be a nice street car since i like the CR it makes.

Also what Cam would be geared for that kind of engine.

im not sure what kind of RPM's that combo would pull. i thought it would make roughly 500 hp and tq?

500/525+hp, 6000rpm range, similar torque with a hydraulic cam, I would get the purple shaft 292/508cam, if this is a street strip car.
Your gonna need a large set of headers, hooker super comps. are 1 3/4".

426 cubes and 500 + hp I would look for a 1-7/8" pipe

A friend has a 423 cube stroker in his car.

520ftlbs ar 4500rpm  537hp @4600rpms. Thats using TTI stepped headers that killed 25 + hp/ftlbs of torque.

I agree Adam, I just don't know who makes a 1 7/8 header for the small block, that is why I recommended the 1 3/4's.

I've already recommended a cam, Dynamic make some of the best converters out there, get a  dynamic 9 1/2 "35/3600 stall.
Be sure to gasket match intake and exhaust gaskets, clean up the header flanges with a grinder as well.

There are a bunch of variables that will determine the cam you use. The one drmopar recommended is a good one. What gears you want to run and the tire height will put you in a certain rpm range. For instance if you run 3.91 gears with a 27" tall tire the cam drmopar suggested will work great. Of course you'll also need a stall converter like he said. Maybe not quite as big as he said (3,000 JMHO) but you'd need one nevertheless. With those gears and tire height you'll cruise at approx. 3000 rpm at 60 mph. If you want a milder cruiser that spins less rpm's you'd need taller gears such as 3.23's or 3.55's. With those gears you might be better with a slightly smaller cam. Maybe one of Hughes grinds. Call them and they can tell you what would work with what you want to do. I just met and dealt with them the first time at Monster Mopar and their a friendly and knowledgeable bunch. Also I'll add that if you go milder on the cam and gears you can run a lower stall converter such as a 2500. That'll make it a real nice cruiser but with the smaller cam you might fall short of the 500 hp mark. It all comes down to properly matching components.

Dr, Headmen has a 1-7/8" and a 1-3/4 to 1-7/8" step tube for a bodies listed on line under there race headers. I believe they are semi fender well though.

The .509 is too small lift wise.
This cam is a true 3000 rpm worth of power then it's off, I've run 3, 340,360,440.
Something .540-.560'ish would be nice with around the same dur 288*-292* 110cl,     [9.74 not so high compression].

i had plans of mini tubbing it also. so then i can run a 27x13 in the rear and the 3.91's was my intention also because its going to be a street strip car.

for the 509 mopar cam what if i had 1.6 rockers installed? that would bump the lift up to 540 lift roughly

Sounds good to me, I can tell you the 509 with the large duration is a excellent cam and will help the car run some very strong MPH.

Yea.... I like the mp.557 solid better than the .509 hyd for the stroker mentioned,
Put 1.6's on that and you'll be golden .557 + 1.6 =.595-.028=.567 sweet.
