O.k.,heres the mystery-Mopar performance states the 1st mod to do on a 318 is to install any 360 heads,This months issue a reader asked the same question about swapping heads. The acticle states putting 360 heads on a 318 will lower compression ratio causing poor performance, poor fuel economy,etc...So what is a guy to do? Yea Yea I know-put a 360 in it-thats solves everything
No it dont have a Hemi-YET!!

I would port the hell out of some 318 heads along with under cut stem valves. You can get 300hp pretty easy with basic rebuilt bottom end with out expensive pistons.

I don't see any rambling from the OE poster. Simple question, simple answer........
The MoPar ecomendation is an old one made many years ago that hold water, theres a way to use a 360 head and a way not to, but to hold more water.....
The 318 head can carry you alot further in a street, street/strip ride than a 360 head can. The 360 heads ports are a bit large and slow down the air and fuel velocity. Generally speaking, the 1.88 valve is to big for common street useage. Street strip, yes.
Port the hell out of them? NO!

Rumble fish would not full port the 318 head cause he might not know how and thats alright, but some some of us do. Opinions, opinions.....

Now how and actually doing so are two different things. I do know that a full porting of a 318 head isn't allways the best venue to travel.
What 3404spdValiant suggested is to port the hell out of them. Is your engine ready for fully ported heads? If not, then following his advice will result in a slower car. Money not well spent.
He should know that every engine does not respond in the same monor. The particular set up and what the engine is to do has a ton of bearing on what needs to be done. A fully ported set of heads on one car makes it a dog while the well preped bowl blended set does wonders for it.
IF the OE poster is still here, list what mods and specs the engine/car has as well as it's intended purpose.
Getting this info will leed to good advice vs. blind suggestions.

You don't always full port to come up with ultimate flow @ max lift #'s for one. RV,mild street, full [street/strip] port, and all out race. Depends on what your doing [where you focus lift/flow] Two, you[RF] bowl blend.
I bowl blend, work the short turn and any high velocity areas I can find with the probe, guide profile, raise the roof and cut out as much pinch as I can and gasket match.
I shoot for high as possible low lift [.100-.450] and only sacrifice low lift for ultimate flow [.350-.550] when a BIG roller is used along with high RPM's.
If you bolted better breathing heads like what I get when I port you are going to make more power period. Do you know how hard it is to kill the velocity in a 318 head?
How many heads you sectioned? how many heads have you got into water? How many heads have you fully ported and really went for it? None????
Your not learning until you f a few things up dude. You have some learning to do.

Well, I'm very glad to see you don't know what your talking about. The whole entire post is inaccurate and off. Any head porter can see that. OH, I'm sorry, any real head porter can see that.
Heres my case in point; "You don't always full port to come up with ultimate flow @ max lift #'s for one"
But below you said "Port the hell out of them" and without even knowing what his combo is!
LOL @ this. "I bowl blend, work the short turn and any high velocity areas I can find with the probe, guide profile, raise the roof and cut out as much pinch as I can and gasket match."
It should read, "IF I knew how to port, I'd follow the basic advice I read in every rag that says "How to port heads" and try it out."
This is a true scream! .550 lift and big roller. Come on man, .550 lift is baby lifts, street performance lift. BIG ROLLER!!!!!!!!!!!
WOOOOWWWW!!NHHA HA HA HA HA HA OM-Fin GOD! What a looooooooser! Ha ha ha ha
I gotta hand it to you, when you make yourself look like an ASS, you do it real good!
"Your not learning until you f a few things up dude. You have some learning to do."
And your still F-in up by pretending your something. You can't even pass as a decent human being or communicate kindly like a normal person.
WOOOOOWWWWW!!! HA ha ha ha ha, You are a weeeeeeeeeeiner! Ha ha ha ha
I have learning to do? I'll NEVER ever say I don't. I'll keep on learning as long as I live and hope to keep on learning something everyday. Take your own advice so your I-D-10-t problem goes away some.
LOL, you wish you ported heads. You have no freakin clue what your doing and only talk a half assed game.
Beileve me when I tell you that anybody that knows anything about these subjects you pretend to know something about comes on and reads your posts, they know it's dribble from the get go.
You sure know how to make yourself look dumber than dumb. I gotta hand it to you also on the fact that you keep on coming back over and over and over again talking the weakest smack I have ever seen on the web.
I'm done with this thread. I don't even have to replie to anything you post up next because you what you posted up. It is SOOOOOOO weak it pathetic it is amazing.
The New York Mets collapse wasn't even that sad!!!!!
Whooooooo-ho ho ho ho ha ha ha ha ha!
Oh please, meet me in another thead and I'll continue to pick you apart like a Turkey leg. Ha ha ha ha ha ha h
OMG! How has aKleen-X, my eyes are watering from this self puncing clown's throw up it's crazy!!!!!!!!

Theres a few peoblems with using 360 heads on the 318. The first is the large combustion chamber is going to kill compression. That can be fixed by milling the heads down to reduce chamber size.
The other problem is the larger ports will reduce velocity which will hurt torque and throttle response.
Your best bet is to reowrk a set of 318 heads with a good valve job and some bowl work or swap to a 360.
