Ok my fellow Mopar drag racers I need some help.I just took my restored 73 challenger to the track for the first time and my best time was a disappointing 14.7 at 96 mph. It was my first time ever drag racing at a track and my reaction time was horrible but as my reaction drasticaly got better from an embarrassing .552 to .091 my ET's got slower. The biggest problem was wheel spin and wheel hop due to BF goodrich radial T/A's. Everyone I talked to said I needed a set of slicks or dot tires. Here is my problem. What size do I need? I can get a 9.5 inch tire without rubbing but what height do I need? You can get them from 26 inch up to 30 inch in height.Ok here is what I have. 360 bored .030 keith black 10.5 -1 pistons, lunati cam .480 lift 292 duration 230 at .050 lift. hooker headers, holley 750,weiand high rise single plane intake, J head with 2.02 intake and 1.65 exhaust valves,2350 stahl converter,904 trans with shift kit,3:91 gear with a locker. The motor will tach 6000 rpm and 2nd gear runs out about 150 ft from the finish line in the 1/4 mile. Please make recomendations, I want to get this car in the 12s and it has enough motor to do it.

First 96 miles per hr. won't get you into the 12's wheel spin or not. However 13's should be a realistic goal without changing much more than the slicks and the converter. Since your running radials on the front I would recommend a set of Mickey Thompson dot drag radials, 255x60/15 will do fine. Second your gonna need more converter, I would recommend a dynamic 9 1'2" with a 3800 stall speed. To control the wheel hope I would suggest a performance pinion snubber from mopar performance. The above will get you into the 13.8 range, if you want more your going to have to get some more out of the motor. Personally I would get rid of the single plan intake for an rpm air gap. Holley 750 what? vac. If so sell it and get a double pumper. Have the heads been ported and polished? if not they will need to get done. Make sure you gasket match the intake to the heads, and the heads to the headers. You simply do not have enough cam to run 12's, I would recommend mopar solid 241/528 with adjustable 1.5 roller rockers and advance the cam 4 degrees. I would top it off with an MSD6al and with some careful carb tuning this thing will run high 12's at about 105 mph. Good Luck
