I have a 74 dart converted over to a 360 with a 727 trans. I just got the car and though it is driveable, it needs a lot of TLC. the trans kick down rods were removed and am considering buying the mopar cable replacemnt kit, any info on this set up would be highly appreciated. Also, what are the proper timing specs for this set up?

Alan, Driving without the kickdown hooked up can really hurt your transmission. The Mopar cable kit works fine, and is a good alternative. Whether you get the conversion kit or a factory replacement, get one!
As far as the timing seting, it depends on the engine--is it stock?

Thanks, yes I realise the potential damage of not having the kickdown linkage, I just bought the car and this is how I got it unfortunatly. and no the engine is not stock, according to the title it had a 6 cyl. Its got an edelbroker 650 carb hollie manifold and headers. The car is a bit tired and I belive its previous owner beat the crap out of the poor girl, Im trying to perk er up a bit, get a little life back into her...any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks

A tired and beaten engine is hard to get much power from without rebuilding. How does it run now? Where is the timing at now? If runs good, you might not want to change too much. Normally, I would set the timing at about 30-34 degrees total, depending on what the engine wants.

I asked the Dodge dealer in town here and they told me to set it @ 5 degrees BTDC. I set it there and now it seems harder to start, have to choke it more, and it seems to run a little rougher, could be my imagination. I gave it a complete tune up.and oil change. It seems to idle really high about 1300 in nuteral, than drops down to 400 when in gear. I tried adjusting it but cant find a happy medium. The carb base gasket i replaced because it was leaking badly. The car is in a bit of a mess. The wirring looks like a rats nest. I found a lot of loose terminals and broken wires, plus the fuse box had a aluminum gum wrapper around one of the fusses. deffinitly the work of a hack.

I admit Im a little Clueless when it comes to timming and electronics, But I am mechanically inclined, was a deisel and hydraulic mechanic in the navy for 4 years and did build my first Harley from a basket case, So I do know how to turn a wrench and Im not some young snot nosed kid. I know what a timming light is and how to use one, but after reading other peoples posts on the subject, I realise I dont know near enough. What is an adjustable knob timming light?

call the seller to see if he had a manual valve body installed in which case if he did you would not need the kikdown linkage or cable.

Set your timing to 12 degrees initial timing if your running good gas, if the engine doesn't ping your set. If you have a manual valve body you would only be able to drive the car if you shifted manually.
