NOS 440 wedge block - What's it worth?

So here's the story....

My friend's ex husband was a Mopar hobby racer.  In 1978 he purchased a brand new 440 wedge block from the local Dodge dealership where he worked.  It was going to be his dream engine.  She remembers carting this ("that damn") block around every time they moved and how he went on and on about how special this block was.  He passed away last year and the block and all of his other racing stuff was left to her son.  He's not a drag racer and needs to get rid of this stuff.

So what would this block be worth?  It was cast in 1978, the last of the 440 wedge blocks (I've been told).  Bare block, Never been assembled.

The 78 440 is not considered a high performance engine, however the value will depend more on the condition of the block.
If it is a virgin block, stock bore and the cylinders and in good condition, oiled with no marks.
Then you may have something of some value.
This motor has a cast crank which is o.k. for a stock or mild performance rebuild.
The motor would have the 452 casting cyl. heads which are excellent heads for building a performance motor. Plus they come with the harndened exhaust seats for todays unleaded fuels.
Down side of the 78 block is they are a low nickel block, or some would consider a soft material was made to form the blocks. The factory compinsated for this by actually adding extra weight to the casting, this appeared to solve any problem however some claim the engines cannot be bored past .020 to .030 thousands when rebuilding because of the soft material the blocks are made from.
Complete with heads you probably have something worth in the $1500.00/$2000.00 range, give or take, if parts are missing or in poor condition.
The heads alone are worth $500.00/$700.00 plus if in rebuildable condition.
Good luck and hopefully you will find a buyer.

Unfortunately it is the block only.  No heads, crank, pistons, etc.  It is in good condition.  He did have a set of heads that he was going to use for it.  Maybe they are worth more than the block?

Thanks for your help.

In my book the heads were the real value in this package however, the block is still of some value, probably $1000.00/$1500.00 in good condition.

It is in good condition.  It's still new.  Slight surface rust around the oil pan mounting surfaces.  Other than that it's like it came from the factory yesterday.

Thanks for your help.
