I have a 1967 Coronet R/T that I'm restoring. I'm considering buying a new set of wheels. I'm pretty certain I'd like to upgrade to 15" rims, but I'm trying to figure out just how wide a wheel/tire combo I can fit on the back of the car. I know the wheel wells are smaller than the 1968 and later b-bodies.
I've been told that a 9" tire will fit, but I don't exactly know whether they mean 9" tread width or 9" section width. Should I get a 15X8 or 15X7 wheel to fit a 9" tire? If anyone has any experience with these cars and can point me in the right direction, I would certainly appreciate the help.
Thanks, Moparcoastie

I have a 67 Satellite street/strip car and I can tell you the wheel wells are tight. They are even more snug on the 67 dodge models. How do I know, I have a freind that has tried to put my tires and rims on his 67 r/t and they don't fit. I currently run weld wheels 15x8 with a 4 1/2 back spacing with a true 10 inch tire, M&H bias ply 275/60/15. However I did have to cut the lip off the inside of the wheel wheels. For years I ran a 15x7 Cragar S/S rim with an L-60/15, 9" treaded tire. The last combo is the safe way to go, with little work other than bolting on the tires & rims.

Do you know how to identify a 1968 mopar rim? As I need some.

I have a 67 Coronet. I have a 15" Modern center line wheel with 245 60 15 tires on the back and 225 on the front. With no modifications to the body. Hope this helps!

I have Jegs center line copies 8"x15"x 4.5 BS with 30"x9" Hoosers. The critical measurement is the section width. I don't think you can go any wider than 11"-11.5" section width with the springs and everything stock. I had the same tire on stock mopar 15" rims and they rubbed when you went around a corner, they don't on the Jegs wheels.

Thanks for the info. I don't want to modify the wheel opening at all, so I at least know I can't run tires as wide as yours. Thanks again for the help!
