Hey I'm a new member, and I have a question.  I was wondering which years did the 318 have a roller cam and how can you identify it without pulling it apart.  I have a 1987 Ramcharger and 1973 Coronet both with 318's and both needing rebuilds.  Any relevant info would be greatly appreciated.  

318la motors built between 1988-91 are roller cams.
I believe all the magnum engines are also roller cams, those from 92 up.

Hey dr.? I have an 84'cast 318 roller motor right in front of me now.
See 318's got the roller and closed/heart shape chamber heads before the 360.
When the 360 finally got closed chamber heads and a roller it was the magnum era.  

I found on allpar.com that the roller cam started with the 318 in '88 and the 360 followed in'89  

And they are wrong on this one.
I'm looking at one now dated 84' with the threaded bosses for the roller lifter spider and all.  

All 1984 on up CAR 318's had roller cams. Some trucks did in 1985-87, but by 1988 ALL Mopar SB had roller cams. I know this as fact. Mopar used roller cams YEARS before Chevy. Chevy trucks didnt get roller cams until 1996!

The easiest way to tell without taking the intake off, is to remove the dist and look down in the hole. You can see if the lifters are roller or not, you can see them, they are right there.
