I want to restore my 318 Powered 81 Dodge Mirada CMX. 250Hp is my goal without hurting the 21mpg I currently get. I would like input on what combonation I should go with such as Carb, Cam, Heads etc. I was thinking of starting with Magnum heads from the junk yard and getting rid of the lean burn system with a conversion kit. The tranny is a 727 that last I knew was shifting well but I have been told it hesitates going into reverse until warmed up [ I lent this car to a friend until he could get back on his feet, now I am getting it back and it is time to bring it back to life!] Funding for this project will be tight so $200 at a time will be my cut off. So if it takes me a few years so be it!  

Look in the september issue of mopar muscle, ther is a great artical on the subject.   I would go with magnum heads from 94 or newer, an M1 dual plain intake, a ROAD DEMAN 625 cfm carb, a MOPAR Performance electronic ignition conversion kit, and a mild street cam.  A high road gear in your rear end will help to. more than likly your car already has a high gear.  E-mail me on your progress. Want to wake it up but keep the costs down, locate a swap meet factory 340 cam and springs. install a stock 4 barrel intake for a 318 from a swap meet, and 600 holley. add headers. Do the electronic ign. conversion from mopar and your done.

rebuilt carb $250.00
used cam & springs $75.00
new headman headers $175.00
dual exhaust, if you can do it yourself $150/200.00
Electronic ign. $250.00 with a set of wires.  
 With some careful shopping you can do the hole job for well under a grand.
What you can't find at a swap meet you can buy from the wrecking yard & summit.
Your car will probably pick up a solid 60/70 horse power and get better gas mileage than you get know.
