After 30 some years of not racing, I went to the track with my newly accuired 440 powered Satellite and was dumbfounded that this little Mitsubishi "Evo" could actually beat my Mopar Muscle car!  I've declared war on rice burners! Also, last night on "Pinks", some guy lost his 383 powered Chevy to a toyota Supra!  What's this world coming to!

i actually own a 87 dodge shelby daytona. ill admit its a fast car for cheap and actually has some balls to it unlike those friggin hondas and all that crap. plus parts for the daytona are cheap. but in the future im gonna get a project car, probably a duster. not sure wat engine i will put in but most likely itll be a 360 crate engine.i need to keep on the racing in my family. even tho i hate gm my grandpa has a 71 camero ss with a 454. hes running low 10's. no nitrous just all motor. thats what i plan on doin with the duster!

Luckily around here the kids drive mostly trucks, but back home in new england every dang kid has to have some form of ricer, revving thier fart pipe equipped pregnant rollerskate and blasting thier mega watt stereos at every red light.. The wife and I had a 90 Celica, but it was a hand me down when Dad went back to American. We never riced it out and it was only basic transportation when I was out plowing with our Ramcharger at the time. Heck even when we moved the Celica stayed there and was sold and the RC came down here to Florida.

I was once of these obnoxious kids that you're talking about (it was a long time ago).
I remember 'grown-ups' complaining when kids started putting headers and glass packs on what were family cars in the 60's and 70's (i.e. Chevelles, Darts, etc) and playing their stereos too lound.

Like it or not the fact remains that Americans bought all of the 'rice' cars and that's what's available for kids to modify today. It's not their fault that there aren't any American v8s around that they can afford to drive and modify.

I know that I hate when I sound like parents did - think about it.

Though you have a good point, they still suck.
If engineers would have put the same head flow to our mopars as these lil piles have now, there would be no reason besides [EXTREME RACE or weight issues] to buy
after market aluminum heads. even a stock slant 6 could run like a small block.

Gentlemen, i cant agree with you more, but this is how it is going to be. the only way i can think of to compete with an import/tuner type is to put your engine in a light bodied car/truck. i look at it like this- first of all, they are not the only invaders- there are electric powered cars racing the strip now and diesel engines have also evolved to make impressive power too. the days of souping up your 360  are fading fast. computer controlled engines and chips offer "instant" performance, ect.. i take their presence at the strip as an insult that needs to be addressed. they have no respect for mopar history at the strip. yeah, they are beating us at our own sport, but i for one am not just going to bend over. their engines will never sound as good and as intimidating as a mopar V-8, they will never launch like a V-8. they can be beaten, ive seen it many times, hell ive seen a full size ram truck smoke a turbo'd evo. so instead of giving them satisfaction reading about our complaints, lets head to the garage and start wrenching.

As A-body people know, fast is all about power to weight ratio.  When you take a japanese beer can and put nitrous and a turbo on it, it will be fast. Mopar people generally have always been about all-motor. Show me a hundred fast Mopars and a hundred fast ricers and look at the percentage of all-motor Mopars vs. ricers. Most of the ricers will have a power adder and the Mopars won't.  It's simple physics, cubic inches = HP.

Another way we can compete and win is stroker motors.

This is one of those times I agree with everybodies comments.
Being a life time tech I can tell you imports in general are a joke.
When they first came over here we were told they would never rust, well I can tell you up here in Canada they rust, and rust bad.
Then we were told they would get unbelieveble fuel economy.
30 miles to the gallon is a joke in today's world  for these wonder cars, that is what most Hondas and toyotas are getting today. My sons 3.2 litre Intrepid gets close to 30 miles pr. gallon and it is at least twice the size of a Honda.
Then we were told there better, easy to believe if you don't have to fix them, they are a pain in the _ _ _ to fix, parts are generally more expensive, and they are cramped to work on.
So what does North America do, they buy into the _ _ _ _, and by doing this they put 10's of thousands of their own on the unemployment line.
As far as performance, its all about apples and oranges.
Thats right, anyone can make a car run with 30 lbs of turbo boost in a car that weighs nothing.
If you want to runs turbos and nitrous than lets compare you to our full size cars running turbos and Nitrous. Last time I looked NOPI was getting smoked by a bunch of turbo v8's that they let on their show because their ratings were continually dropping. Since then NOPI seems to have disappeared from the tv.
Good, more time for Pass Time and Pinks.
Its time that North America starts a revolt, buy North American. Do you think the Japanese would let the American auto industry over run their country. Not a chance, not only do they not buy American cars, 96% of their population is Japanese because their first and only interest is protecting their own interests.
Its time for both Canada and the United States to wake up and say enough is enough.
