ok heres the story. my father in law was the mopar man and was a gm man but he passed away in feb 08. now we have his 67 gtx in the garage. well he had a old belvedere too that was ready for drag racing. well i have the belvedere now and a built 440 to go in it. we have old mopar motors everywhere so i found me another 440 and took the tranny and toque converter loose from it for my drag car. now the problem in i have no idea how to tell what kind of tranny it is because it wasnt in a car. i was wondering if anyone could help me plz before i tear something up. i would also like to know how to tell the diff in rear ends. thanks and some plz help me

sorry to hear about your dad, A 904 tranny is for smallblocks so is a 727.But 727 also went in bigblock rides. You can measure the bolt pattern with a tape measure on your 440 or if ya got a real keen eye look at the bell housing and look for a nice fat round housing.A small block housing will have a flat surface to one of the sides probabley the right side lookin at the back-side of the tranny.Rear-ends are a little bit trickyer.8.75 rears have a third member that loads from the drivesahaft side and a nice round backside. This rear would be desirable for your car, unless you find a dana 60 wich is ultimate beef.It has 10 bolts that hold the pan cover on. More than likely the belvy has a 8.75 already in it,unless its already pulled. The D-60 is asimmalar rear that was in 3/4 ton pickups. It is king beef for drag racing.Hollor if ya got anymore questions.Try and help as much as possable
