I have a 60s built T-Bucket with, what I believe to be, a Mopar rear end. It has numbers casted between the two ribs on the left side; #1141544-44 and above that number is a casted #1. Also, on top of the carrier is a stamped #3.9 which I belive is the gear ratio. Also casted there is an A within a circle and above that are a group of letters formed in a block that are; DP on top and CD on bottom.   DP
                                       CD
The carrier is a front drop out unit with two ribs on the left side and a very small single rib on the right side. All of this casted information is located on the left side of the carrier between the two ribs and the stamped 3.9 is on the very top center of the carrier. The back of the houseing behind the carrier is  smooth rounded (no contour for ring gear) where the cover would be if the third member were integeral. Any idea? What other rear end could it be? I want to replace seals and bearings if I can get it figured out. Thanks!

Are you sure it's a Mopar rear? It could be a Ford unit. A Mopar center section would have casting numbers like 741, 742, or 486 cast into the side of the removable section.

Along with the Mopar 8 3/4, the Ford 9 inch also has a center section installed from the front.

If the car was built in the 50s/early 60s, there's a good chance it's an Oldsmobile rear end. These were tough, popular with street rodders and racers, and also had a front mounted center section. they're often mistaken for Ford 9 inch or Mopar 8 3/4 rears.

I know it's late to post, but what you have is a 8 1/4 mopar rear. this was before the 8 3/4 in '57. The later 8.25s had a cover on the back. It is the same as I am removing from a 1955 Desoto. I believe the 44 would mean 1944 as mine says 55 from a 1955.
