Hi
Im planning on building a 440 using this Kit from Eagle
/Summit Part Number: ESP-B21205055L19
Will a 4.5 stroke crank fit in a original 440 block (67 block) Will I need to grind the block at the bottom of the bore for the rods and crank to clear???

Hi,
Yes, it will fit-barely. This is about the biggest stroke you can squeeze into the old RB. Get out your markers and die-grinder-you are going to need them. Even with Chevy 2.2" big end rods you will need to clearance the bore bottoms and the oil pkp. area, so that you will be looking at an external pkp. system ala Milodon.
As you can easily make enough power to overstress the old girl with this much displacement, be careful of the combo, and look at ARP studs with good caps and/or a good girdle to keep the caps from walking. Many would say go to an aftermarket block at this level. The stock bottom end is good to 600-650 depending on who you talk to. From there some, like the Aluminum caps or the Pro-Grams which take some machine work to fit. Then there is the girdle. I hear of guys running 900+ with the bottom trussed up like this. What's your torque-monster going in?
