I have a stock 318 in my 84 d 100 the factory specs say 12 deg btd I would give it a try as the timing should not have changed to much over the years

You will probably have to set it by ear. The harmonic balance on small block chryslers are 2 piece and have a rubber insert between the 2 pieces and over time the outer ring slips furteher and further out.Hook a Vaccumm gage to ported vacuum on your carb and adjust the timing until until you reach between 13 and 16 inchs and lock the distributor down. make sure the engine is up to operating temp. Drive it and see if it sputters at 55 MPH if it does turn the distributor back just a little about 2 degrees. readjust your idle and you should be good to go.This works I have had to do it this several times on old 70s small blocks with a lot of miles on them.
