Has anyone tried the aluminum indy cylinder heads for the 360 small block? The flow numbers look good but the price is high. I have a set of stock heads overground with 2:02 intake and 1:65 exhaust and they just arent performing as well as I expected. The engine I built is bored .030 over.I have Keith Black 10.5 -1 pistons,Lunati Bracket master 480 lift and 292 duration, weiand accelerator intake and holley 750 with vacuum secondaries, hooker super comp headers, 2350 stahl and 3:91 gear.I should be lighting the tires on fire but im not.Any sugestions.

i also had a thought- did you have any work done on your exhaust side of the intake? i like your set up, i am doing the same thing w/my 360. i know that w/stock mag cyl heads the exhaust side is somewhat restrictive and it is recommended that you port the exhaust to allow greater flow. another thought- are you using the pedastal mount rocker, or did you convert to shaft mount? what mods did you make to your ignition? all of that added fuel/air needs greater spark to ignite.

I am using the shaft mount rockers with stock rocker arms and they are pretty tight no clatter. I didnt do any porting I just had the heads overground to accept 2:02 intake and  1:65 exhaust and there is only about.030" clearance between the valves.Ignition is Mopar performance distributor with MSD blaster 2 coil but I definitely need hotter spark because the plugs are getting fuel fouled.I just ordered SummitRacings New capacitive discharge box it delivers the same punch as Mallory's High Fire for about half the price and is Digital instead of analog controlled.Im hoping the exta spark will wake it up a little more.

some thoughts i had in reading your problem-bearing in mind my knowledge on rebuilding and actual mech physics of how hp and torque is made is limited. but some thoughts i had are:
-is your valvetrain and intake cfm compatible? i have read/heard that increased cfm with magnum heads esp. needs a matching/compatible valvetrain, or loss in power will result

-you mentioned that your plugs become fuel fouled- is it possible your carb is needing adjustment? is your fuel pump at the right pressure for delivery into the carb?

-did you ever perform a dyno before and again after your rebuild to see what gains were made? at what rpm highest hp was achieved and rpm highest torque was achieved?

-is your engine an older LA block, a production mag, or later? was the original fuel delivery injected that you converted to carb on your rebuild?
-are you re-using the stock crank?
-did you balance your engine?

i had other thoughts, but i dont want to ramble. but after alot of thought, my guess's are a. that you are right, you are not getting enough spark b. there is a restriction in the exhaust- again esp. magnum heads have small exhaust ports and removal and smoothing of the holes improves flow d. there is a prob in your drive train. im thinking that if you can determine hp at the flywheel and rwhp, a greater loss than what would be considered expected may help id the culprit. i would like to know what you found is the cause. i hope i have helped

If you have a rich condition by reading your plugs you need to rejet your carb, I would go down 1 or 2 jet sizes and recheck. You make no mention of gear size what is it?
a 2400 stall converter is basically stock, so don't expect to be burning the tires up with this.
If you dropped in larger valves without some porting you will probably have zero gain from the valves, infact you would kill some bottom end.

The Indy heads are excellent, but they are meant for a drag race application, like a 4-5000 stall converter with 4.56 gears, big solid, or roller cam to get the most benift out of the heads along with a double pumper carb, Edelbrock Victor or indy intake.
