I've got a 66 Satellite that I'm in the process of painting/restoring. Any advice, tips, or tricks on how to remove all the chrome metal trim around the doors, windshield, and rear window?

Any advise would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Matt

After attempting to remove trim with screwdrivers and ruining it in the process, my advice is to get the assistance of an auto body specialist. There are actually special tools for removing some of the trim, and some is just held on by clips like the door panels. Get a professional to help, that's my advice!

another way I found out that worked pretty well was carefully removing corner window trim ,slightly raising trim in the area to be removed by depressing clip using a razor knife to carefully cut any rubber molding that may be attached to clip or molding. dont cut too deep, applying some wd-40 to the underside of the trim to be removed.use a screwdriver and press in first clip to release chrome trim from car and then gently lifting and sliding the trim off. once you have it moving if it wont slide off gently lift and depress next clip with a screwdriver and cut again.if the trim wont slide do as above until it will slide off,you may have to cut as you go if it doesnt slide off. but ive done a few this way and it worked quite well .trick is not lifting it too high and bending it. once you have it lifted on 1 end you can slide a screwdriver carefully on to next bottom clip by gently lifting again. once the bottom or top clips are released the trim should pop or slide right off. 1 slip of the screwdriver and you can bend the trim and or crack the window. patience is required , and they sell the trim removal tool at napa I believe, special order.without the knowledge of using this tool you could still end up with bent trim.you just need to pop the top  clips and the lower when you push it down ,making sure you have gentle pressure on top clip should pop right out of the rest of the lower clips.its a slow job to do it right.I do the top clip first taking care not to slip and crack the window using a balled up rag for leverage on the screwdriver. its a slow job sometimes and you dont want to bend the chrome where it fits into the clips. you can also start at the bottom clips and use the rag also so you dont chip your paint. patience is a virtue with this operation and taking your time is very important.... ps dont cut so deep you cut the window gasket.
