was the 440 7.0L 426cid V8 a small block? i dont know, im trying to make sure i order the right pitman arm for my 65 dodge coronet. i think the orginal motor in my 1965 440 dodge coronet was the 440 7.0L 426cid V8. but i bought the car with a 318 v8 small block. what determines small or big block. thanks

was no 440 engine in 65, 426 is possible, no both are bigblocks .the factory determined it.

A 65 coronet most likely came with a poly 318 which is what you probably have, they were used up until 1967. They were considered the base motor for most B-body mopars.

392? and also dr. it could as well be a 383,dont know until you find the casting numbers ,I was checkin out a rustbucket 65 sport fury,I thought it was definitely a 318 poly or 383, guy claimed it was a 383, I pulled the 4 bolt valve covers, 2 on top, 2 on bottom, got the casting #s off the heads and they turned out to be 76 318 castings but the block that was in it had to be the poly 318, the valve covers were old edelbrocks and appear to have been used for setting a mech cam while engine is running as you could remove the top plate of the valve cover leaving the side up to the top but by doing so you would remove the 2 longer hexhead bolts holding the lower side valve cover attachment bolts, it was definitely a poly as it looked like a 383 and ran a steel crank, guy still has it .engines frozen, total rustbucket, but it has a decent interior and centerconsole automatic.never seen a valve cover like this one before. im gonna get the casting #s to see what the heck it is and them valve covers were unlike any ive seen before, ill check it out in time as its just sittin in the pasture with the horses
