I'm looking for a set of ceramic coated headers that will fit a 383 E body. I purchased a set of Hooker Super Comp Coated Headers and they do not fit. They hit the steering box on drivers side and steering linkage on right side. Anyone with experience about this, please respond. I want to stay with a name brand top quality header. Many Thanks Fish Guts 383

What kind of header are you looking for? Is your 383 a heavily modified race engine that needs 2-inch primary tubes, or do you just need a good fitting header for a street-performance car?

I'm looking for a street header that will fit without any modification. 1-3/4" or 1-7/8" primary tube. The 383 is pumping aprox 450 hp @ the crank. This is not a race engine or race car. Let me know what you have in mind Many Thanks Fish Guts 383

okay, since you're not building a race car, the Hooker Super Comp header is too much tube for your engine anyway, so I would sell them and get some of your money back. Hooker does make a good header, and it's economical. If you get their Comp header (not the Super Comp) in a 1-7/8 tube, the fit will be much better.
Also, tti makes a really good fitting header. it's a little pricier than the Hooker though.

Thanks so much RBolig for your info. Have you had personal experience with install of the Hooker Comp headers on an E Body? I'm leaning very heavily toward purchasing the Hooker Comps. Looking forward to your reply. Again, Many Thanks, Fish Guts 383

It was many years ago since I last installed a set on an E-Body. I remember them fitting well, and us not having any unusual issues. Headers always seem to give the installer at least one bit of frustration going in--it's inevitable.
Just remember, the smaller tubes will fit nicer, but will hurt peak horsepower slightly.

This looks like the way to go. I know that Hooker has always built quality headers, I've installed a few sets on small blocks, and they have fit very well. RBolig, once more, many thanks for your info. I'll post a photo when the 'Cuda hits the streets. Look for a Plum Crazy '70 from Sacramento. Take Care Fish Guts 383

Hey Gentelmen!
I have a 1970 A body mopar with a 68 383 out of a coronet, it came with a set of hooker competition headers. Can anyone tell me if they'l fit the A body, or do I have other options?
P.S. I dont want to install the fenderwell type.

I put Hedman ceramic coated headers in a 70 440 cuda a couple of weekends ago. I put in a mini starter and had to jack up the engine a bit to get them in but they did fit fine. I have power steering and it cleared it (barely). The 383 has the same block as the 440 so it should work for you too.
